Set Up Slack for Proactive Suggestions
Keeping your knowledge base up to date requires knowing when your product changes. Pageloop can monitor your Slack workspace and automatically identify documentation needs based on your team's conversations. When your team discusses product changes, bug fixes, or feature updates in Slack, Pageloop analyzes those conversations and generates suggestions to create new articles or update existing ones, so your Help Center always reflects the latest state of your product.
This article walks you through connecting your Slack workspace to Pageloop and configuring which channels to monitor.
Before You Begin
You must have admin access to your Pageloop workspace to manage integrations.
You need permission to install apps in your Slack workspace (or the ability to request installation approval from a Slack admin).
Connect Your Slack Workspace
Navigate to Settings by clicking your name at the bottom of the Pageloop sidebar, then select Settings.
Select Integrations from the settings menu.
Find the Slack card on the Integrations page and click the Connect button.
You will be redirected to Slack to authorize the connection. Review the permissions that Pageloop requires and click Install Pageloop to grant access.
After authorization, Pageloop redirects you back to the Integrations page. The Slack card now shows a green Connected badge, along with a Configure button and a Disconnect button.
Once connected, the Slack configuration dialog opens automatically so you can set up your channel preferences right away.
Configure Slack Channels
After connecting, you need to tell Pageloop which channels to watch and where to send notifications. Click the Configure button on the Slack integration card to open the "Configure Slack Channels Access" dialog.
The configuration dialog has three settings:
Select Channels to Watch (1 to 3 Required)
Choose between one and three Slack channels that Pageloop should monitor for product-related conversations. Use the dropdown to search for and select channels from your connected workspace.
Pageloop reads messages from these channels to identify conversations that indicate documentation needs, such as product changes, feature releases, or bug fixes being discussed by your team.
Tips for choosing channels to watch:
Product or engineering channels where your team discusses releases and changes are ideal.
Channels where support issues and customer feedback are shared can help Pageloop spot documentation gaps.
Avoid noisy, high-volume channels (such as general or social channels) that contain little product-related discussion.
Select a Notification Channel (1 Required)
Choose one Slack channel where Pageloop sends notifications when new suggestions are ready. This does not need to be one of the channels you are watching. You might prefer a dedicated channel like #docs-updates or #pageloop-notifications so notifications are easy to find.
When Pageloop generates new suggestions, it posts a message in this channel with a link to view the suggestions in Pageloop. The notification message reads: "New suggestions are ready for review. Click here to check it out."
Select Team Members to Tag (1 to 2 Required)
Choose one or two team members to tag in Pageloop's Slack notification messages. These team members receive an @mention in the notification channel whenever new suggestions are available, so they are alerted immediately.
Save Your Configuration
Once you have made all three selections, click Save Configuration to finalize setup. You will see a confirmation that your Slack configuration has been updated successfully.
You can return to the Integrations page and click Configure on the Slack card at any time to update your channel selections or tagged team members.
Use Private Channels
Pageloop can monitor both public and private Slack channels. However, for Pageloop to access a private channel, the Pageloop bot must be invited to that channel first.
To add Pageloop to a private channel in Slack:
Open the private channel in Slack.
Type /invite @Pageloop in the message field, or click the channel name at the top of the conversation to open channel settings, then add the Pageloop app under the Integrations tab.
Once the Pageloop bot has been invited, the private channel appears in the channel selection dropdown in Pageloop's configuration dialog.
If a private channel does not appear in the dropdown, make sure the Pageloop bot has been invited to that channel.
When to Expect Your First Suggestions
After you save your Slack configuration, Pageloop begins monitoring your selected channels. The first set of suggestions typically takes 24 to 48 hours to appear. After that, Pageloop checks your channels on a regular nightly schedule to generate new suggestions based on recent conversations.
You can view all suggestions by navigating to the Suggestions tab in the Pageloop sidebar. For more information on how to review and act on suggestions, see Working with Proactive Suggestions.
Notifications for Suggestions
When Pageloop generates new suggestions from your Slack conversations, it posts a notification in your configured Slack notification channel. The notification tags your selected team members and includes a direct link to the Suggestions page in Pageloop, so you can review and act on new suggestions right away.
What Kinds of Conversations Trigger Suggestions
Pageloop looks for conversations in your monitored channels that indicate potential documentation needs. These include:
Product changes and releases: Discussions about new features, updates, or changes to existing functionality.
Bug fixes: Conversations about resolved issues that may affect how a feature is documented.
Customer-facing changes: Any discussion about changes that customers would notice or that impact how they use your product.
Process or workflow updates: Changes to how your product works that should be reflected in your Help Center.
Pageloop generates two types of suggestions from these conversations: suggestions to create new articles for topics not yet covered in your documentation, and suggestions to update existing articles that may be outdated. If a suggestion is still in the Newly Detected tab when Pageloop finds more related information, the existing suggestion is updated with the new context rather than creating a duplicate.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why am I not seeing any suggestions from Slack?
If no suggestions appear after 48 hours, check the following:
Verify your Slack integration is still connected by visiting Settings > Integrations and confirming the green Connected badge on the Slack card.
Ensure you have selected at least one channel to watch and one notification channel in the configuration.
Confirm that the channels you are watching have recent conversations about product changes. Channels with little to no activity will not produce suggestions.
For private channels, make sure the Pageloop bot has been invited to the channel.
Can I change which channels Pageloop monitors?
Yes. Go to Settings > Integrations, click Configure on the Slack card, and update your channel selections at any time. Changes take effect immediately for the next monitoring cycle.
Can I monitor more than three channels?
Pageloop currently supports monitoring up to three Slack channels. Choose the channels most relevant to product changes and documentation needs.
Do I need to set up Slack to get suggestions?
No. Slack is one of several data sources Pageloop can use for proactive suggestions. You can also connect Linear for suggestions based on completed issues, or use support conversations for suggestions based on support tickets. Each data source works independently.
How do I disconnect the Slack integration?
Go to Settings > Integrations and click the Disconnect button on the Slack card. Pageloop will stop monitoring your Slack channels and will no longer send Slack notifications for suggestions.
